Is the Sunna from Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم?

Assalamu Alaykum

I read in a book that Sunna is reveled. I always thought the hadeeths/Sunna were from Muhammad:saws1:

I also read before that "The Qur'an is the Sunna and the Sunna is the Qur'an." Can someone explain? How is Sunna revealed?

Yes, the Sunnah, which is the words, deeds and approval that are attributed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, is a part of the Divine Revelation.

Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says (interpretation of the meaning):

Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only a Revelation revealed. [al-Najm 53:3-4] ​

It was narrated from al-Miqdaam ibn Ma’di Yakrib رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Verily I have been given the Qur’aan and something similar to it along with it. But soon there will be a time when a man will be reclining on his couch with a full stomach, and he will say, ‘You should adhere to this Qur’aan: what you find that it says is permissible, take it as permissible, and what you find it says is forbidden, take it as forbidden.’ But indeed, whatever the Messenger of Allaah forbids is like what Allaah forbids.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2664). He said: It is hasan ghareeb with this isnaad. It was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (2870).

Hassaan ibn ‘Atiyah said in al-Kifaayah by al-Khateeb:

Jibreel used to bring the sunnah down to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم as he used to bring the Qur’aan down to him. Narrated by al-Daarimi in his Sunan (588) and by al-Khateeb in al-Kifaayah (12). It was attributed by al-Haafiz in al-Fath (13/291) to al-Bayhaqi, and he said: With a saheeh isnaad.​

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1229.

It was also narrated by Muslim in the Introduction to his Saheeh, without the phrase
“Telling lies about me is not like telling lies about anyone else.”

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Do not tell lies about me, for whoever tells lies about me will enter Hell.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 106.

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Whoever narrates a hadeeth from me that he thinks is false is one of the liars.”
Narrated by Muslim.

Drinking liquids in general and water in particular is also a thing of everyday life and people do it numerous times a day. Pertaining to drinking, the Sunnah of Muhammad (PBUH) are as follows:
A Muslim must say Bismillah before drinking water.
The water should be drank with the right hand and in a sitting position.
Drinking water with the left hand and while standing is prohibited in Islam.
Prophet (PBUH) would drink the water in three breaths and after every breath He would remove the utensil carrying water from His lips.
After drinking water, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would say Alhamdulillah.

..my mum told me the same, although its easily noticeable as something people dont do..

And easily noticable as something people do.. do.

Not sure of the authenticity or the fact (locally speaking) the people do the exact opposite..traditionally..when drinking zam zam water from returning haji's. (In my community, anyway)

They stand facing the kaaba while maintaining the other etiquittes of drinking water.

Would be nice is someone could elaborate.

I gave Zam-zam water to Allah's Apostle and he drank it while standing. 'Asia (a sub-narrator) said that 'Ikrima took the oath that on that day the Prophet had not been standing but riding a camel.

Note: there are diff in opinions here but other than zam zam water its sunnah to sit and drink
