If a person is sad and when they meet a group of people they put on a smile to avoid awkwardness or not feeling comfortable with talking to someone at the moment.

Or if there is a co worker that you dislike but you have a kind demeanour although inside you’d like to be be unkind.

I believe lying to mend relations between two parties or to make one feel better is not lying.
2 examples
Wife asks husband if she is fat and he says no she is perfect. This makes the relationship stronger.

Another is saying, so and so said good things about you, this is to increase love between two people. So these are permissible.
