The Anglican Bishop of Tasmania has called for greater understanding between Christians and Muslims.
Bishop John Harrower made the call while addressing the Tasmanian Anglican Synod meeting in Launceston yesterday.
He told the gathering that ignoring the differences of others shows a lack of hospitality.
Bishop Harrower says workshops will be held across Tasmania in the coming months, giving participants a chance to learn about Islam.
"I think sometimes the danger is we either try to pretend, 'Oh it's all the same, it's just religion' and in fact minimise people who hold those convictions
and the differences that they have," he said.
"And then are surprised when differences sort of suddenly emerge or else we can become quite fearful and hostile and xenophobic."
