Asalamualaykum,

As we all know summer is approaching!! But I really want to make this summer different than most summers and I want to memorize quran&ahadith but most importantly, I want to gain more knowledge! The only problem is I dont know where to start teaching myself from. I know the basics but I wanted some input on where I should head to next! This includes recommending books! JazakAllah Khair in advance!!!

May Allah reward you and assist you in increasing your knowlegde. here's an email i recently sent those on my list:

As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu,

for those that have heard it as well as for those who haven't, here is the link for some Bashar Shala lectures:

stories from Surah al Kahf. please listen to the Man of the 2 gardens:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/m...tories+of+Quran/14_Stories_from_Surah_Al-Kahf

Bashar also has a near complete Seerah here [missing some pre-Islamic info]:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Seerah+of+the+Prophet+(pbuh)

and a series on the Khulafa Rashida:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/Khulafah+Rashida

and on the 4 Imams and Islamic Jurisprudence:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/The+Four+Imams

on the Sahabah:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/Sahaba+Rasul-Allah

and the Taba'een:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/Tabi'een

there is a Reflections on the Stories of the Qur'an, of which the Surat Al Kahf is a part, that goes over the Prophets, AS, in the Quran:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Reflections+on+the+Stories+of+Quran

of which my wife really likes the series on Surah Yusuf:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/m...ions+on+the+Stories+of+Quran/10_Prophet+Yusuf

there's even a small section on the Abbassids:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/Bani+Abbas

and the Ummayyids:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Islamic+History/Bani+Umayyah

he is also redoing the Seerah, it follows the Reflections on the Stories of the Qur'an section. it also contains the missing stuff from the other Seerah:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/media/default.asp?q=f&f=/Seerah_an_Nabawi+(saw)

Brother Bashar is a Cardiologist as well as student of Islamic Studies. he is a humble man who has asked to remind others that he is "not a scholar, just an ordinary Muslim!" we would blessed to have more such Muslims among us!

i've listen to his Seerah a a good deal of the part on the Khulifa, they are very heart moving! i hope that you give them a listen and that, In Sha'a Allah, you benefit from them.

May Allah continue to strengthen Brother Bashar and reward him form his efforts, and may He strengthen and reward us as well! AMEEN!

i just recently completed listening to Jamaal Zarabozo's 28 part lecture series on Al Fatihah. i can't recommend it enough, it's SUPERB!

http://www.kalamullah.com/al-fatihah.html

i also enjoy Mufti Ismail Menk's lectures, especially his Tafseer on Asbab Un Nazool Reasons of Revelation]

http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html

Bilal Philips is having some technical problems with his website. if it was running as normal i would recommend the video series, "Foundations of Islamic Studies." it IS available here in audio from:

http://www.alghurabaa.org/lectures/bilal-philips/

btw, the Contemperary Isssues series is quite informative as well.

You can choose the Surah you would like to memorize. Then sit down and listen to the audio recitation 3 times. Follow along with the recitation for 10-20 minutes and repeat along. Repeat steps the surah through everyday for seven days.

However, we also find that the best way to memorize an ayah is –

Choose the ayah you would like to memorize. Repeat the ayah whenever you have spare time during the day – Insha’Allah this will ensure that the ayah gets ingrained into your memory.

Quran explorer allows you to listen to the Quran and might help you memorize if you wish all I can do is make dua "May Allah help you memorize the Quran and make it easy to remember like you remember your name". Ameen!
