As-Salaam-mu-Alaikum.

First I would like to start off by stating I do not mean to insult anyone with this question. I am just asking out of curiosity and to gain knowledge. You know how theres 99 names of Allah. Well I know many people who are named after those names like Rashid, Salam, Muhaimin etc. Are humans allowed to take the names that Allah is often called by?

Jazak Allah Khair.

No, you're not allowed to have a name that Allah is called by, however the names you mentioned aren't Allah's names.

Allah is called by Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem etc (which means MOST Gracious and MOST Merciful)
not Rahman or Raheem which means simply gracious or merciful.

Anyone can be merciful but only Allah can be MOST Merciful.
Anyone can be Raheem, but only Allah can be Ar-Raheem.

There's nothing wrong with having a name like Karim, Rahman etc but it's compeltely wrong to have a name such as Ar-Rahman or Al-Karim etc, these names are reserved for Allah only.

You usually find dudes with the name Abdul-Karim or Abdur-Rahman, Abdul meaning 'Servant of'
I always find it funny when people call these dudes simply by 'Abdul'

Alright gotchya! That makes sense now =)

What a timely topic subhan'Allah.
What is the ruling of Azeem?
A friend of mine has just come to Islam and has chosen that as his name, but some people are telling him it's reserved for Allah (swt) and some are telling him it's fine. :/
