Kaffarah or no Kaffarah??

i was just wondering if you decide to do kaffarah fasting for 60 days when you are not sure if you owe a kaffarah or not a sin???

or should you just do one just in case??

while in school , I missed some fasting . I am not sure now If fasting was fard on me then. So , to be in safe side , I am thinking to give kaffara if financially I am able to do it . I have to guess , how many days I might have missed.
