lack of arabic

I was thinking a few days ago there seems to be a lack of muslims who speak arabic as a language....(including myself) does this suggest that this is yet again another sign of the weakness in the ummah? that we can not even learn the language of the quran and have it as a language?

what are your views on this..

salaam! brother i neither can speak arabic but i want to learn. maybe you could find some lessons as well?
 
It is a fact. Few Muslims do speak Arabic and the majority of those who do; speak it as a second language. I see it as a reflection of the growth of Islam. It has spread so rapidly and so far that today only about 10% of the world's Muslims are from any arabic speaking nations.

That does not mean we should stop striving to learn arabic, it simply means we have grown faster than the language can.

But, although most of us do not speak it, those of us who have been Muslim for about 3 years or more usually pick up a sufficient amount to comprehend the Qur'an.
 
Not speaking arabic doesn't stop you from becoming a good muslim and knowing it doesn't make you a good muslim...
 
i agree with you brother and it's a shame that most muslims spend money on learning different language while the language of islam and coran is fre and no one wants to learn it and the worst thing is that there are muslims who can't understand the words of the coran so what kind of muslim is that who can't even understand the coran ?

i don't agree sister because uma ibn al khatab said learn arabic as it's part of islam and learning arabic will not make of her a good muslim as abu jahl knew arabic much better than us but learning arabic can help her to learn more about islam too

Our God is One, our holy scripture is one, we are one. Our language must be one too which is the language of Quran.

Yes, it is a shame that Muslim do not learn Arabic while it is free. They strive hard to learn other languages while they should emphasize on Arabic at the first place. Learning other languages is beneficial too in Daawa field, but we must use Arabic when we speak or write among us, it shows that we are in a unity :thumbs_up

Arabic is the language of Arabs. But not Quranic Arabic, it is ours and universal. We must speak and write in Quranic Arabic, it is "our" language. I regret over myself for not learning it properly when I attend Madrasah during my schooling time. I am learning it now in order to polish it up.

I'm glad to see many share my views on this.... Ofcourse knowing the language does not mean you will become a shinning star of emaan etc neither does it mean that just cos you do not know the language of the quran you have no chance of gaining piety.... thats not the point. The point was that i think we need to raise more aspiration firstly withinourself then our younger children i.e. siblings and offsprings...

May Allah make it easy on us... i mean think about it wouldnt it be wonderfull to be at every salah and know atleast 80% of what the words are? im sure they it would add to the kushu of salah...
