As I've said before, I'm a 13-year-old boy from Egypt. My family immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 2008. Then we came to Calgary in 2009. In May 2010, my little sister turned 2 years old. She didn't speak Arabic or English, but she could sing a few English songs like Twinkle Twinkle or Old McDonald. At the age of 3, she started speaking English. We were so happy that she started talking, we didn't care what language she spoke. Everyday she would watch English TV shows like Dora or Diego, not to mention she went to Daycare and spoke English with her friends. After a while, it got worse because the only language she could speak was English. She didn't even understand us when we spoke Arabic. When she turned 4, she started understanding a few Arabic words, but even when we talked to her in Arabic, she would reply in English. In July 2013 when she was 5 years old, we went to Egypt for two months. She talked with her cousins in English (they didn't understand her), but after hearing them speak Arabic, she started picking up a few words and soon she was also talking with them in Arabic (though it was very choppy and broken). Her grammar is very bad, and her vocabulary is very limited. She has trouble pronouncing the letters ع غ Ø® Ø. Everyday we encourage her to speak Arabic, but she'll only do it for a few minutes and then switch back to English. We decided to only speak Arabic at home, especially around her. However, my older sister (who is 15 years old) rarely speaks Arabic at home, and she's always encouraging my little sister to speak English because "We live in Canada, and Canada's language is English". It makes me angry, because I know she's trying to steer my little sister away from the Arabic language as far as possible (She doesn't seem to be very fond of the language for some unknown reason). She's also picked up a few bad habits from school or anywhere else outside, and I'm always worried when she's with my little sister (Fearing that SHE will pick up those habits as well).
What do I do? I seriously need help.
