LI Storywriting contest - Brainstorming

Ok so now that we've got the poetry contest out the way, we've had talk of another contest...a story writing one.

What does everybody think?

I think we may need to have a word limit and a fixed theme...

I've seen the 'half-a-page' suggestion which I kinda disagree with, we wont get much of a story with half a page dont ya think?

So...I was thinking maybe we could have a panel of judges instead, rather than relying on votes?

Ideas insha'Allah people...

1. get the mods to pick the winner, first secon and third places

2. Stories are 2 pages typed *Times new roman font size 12*

3. Submissions are sent anonymously to the mods to prevent any bias results

4. members are given a week or two to write their stories

i still think the stories could be longer than 2 pages but i don't know these are just my ideas

I think that would be lovely. But then again, it might be my own bias, since I like writing stories over poems.

cos some wont bother to read all of them :hmm:

so erm what about photography contest??

Great, we have a starting point.

Submissions are sent to the judges (I dont think they have to be mods since we need members to volunteer for that)

And I guess the time, length and theme can be decided too. Although what sis Mu'minah said sounds good :)
 
so what kind of theme , does it have to be funny ,a roman , thriller , horror or drama :-[ ???

I think you should have a word limit, but don't have a fixed theme, I think that that would work better maybe, insha'Allah.

Yh I agree, a word limit is better, maximum of a thousand words?

I think photography is a good idea but I dont think it'll get anywhere.

Why? Because what are the shots going to be of? Has anybody got a good enough cam to take the best shots? I dont know, I'd be willing to give it a go but dont see how it would work.

Also with the story writing....you can make it a lil da'wah thing too :coolious:
 
last month we were doing a little assignment at the masjid *we have these friday night activities*

so we went into groups and wrote small plays, the plays or scripts had to be dawah based, like someone giving another person dawah or something like that

anyways then we had a couple of sisters as judges and they picked the best play

i don't know i'm just giving another idea :-[

No theme is ok too insha'Allah

I think a panel would be better since in my opinion anybody could judge a poem and say if its good or not. But with an in-depth piece of work, and something that may take a lot of reading and comparing with other pieces of writing...a panel dedicated to judging would be best....I dont think a poll would do it justice.
 
leave topics to us IMHO (in my honest opinion), allow my imagination to run free!


as for the length, allow it to be more then three-quarters and watch the thread get ignored !

Thats a fab idea sis...

Another sis and I were talking actually. We was saying that maybe we could scrap the whole 'story writing' idea and just set it to writing a da'wah piece. Could be about anything but its basically an article or 'piece' written around a certain area that you would be best at giving da'wah on...

so we have to count our words if we passed that limit or not :hmm:

im talking about the loadsa people who need to vote


the people who MAKE it a contest !


it shall be ignored by them !
