How much of a margin of error is accepted in the qiblah? Is there any scriptural basis to assert how much is too much?
I'm thinking since I live in a country where there is a grand total of one mosque that has been purpose-built for being a mosque. The rest are prayer rooms that have simply been established in whatever spaces the (invariably poor and lacking influence) local Islamic communities have been able to get. Yet, I've only seen one case where people have actually been aligned diagonally across the room for prayer, in all other places people are just turned according to which main axis of the room is closest to the qiblah. Which might, in theory, result in as much as a 45 degree error at worst.
