"Indeed, Allaah does not take away `Ilm (Knowledge) from the slaves all at once. Rather, He takes it away by taking away the `Ulamaa. Until, when no `Aalim remains, the people will take Juhhaal (ignoramuses) as their leaders. These (ignoramuses) will be asked questions, and they will issue Fatwaa without `Ilm. So, they themselves are deviated and they deviate others." [Narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari.]
From yesterday till today, three great `Ulamaa have left this Dunyaa:
The first was Maulana Saleemullaah Khan, the second was Maulana Mu`een-ul-Islaam, and now the last, who passed away a few hours ago, was the legendary Shaykh `Abdul Hafeez Makki. May Allaah Ta`aalaa raise their ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdows, Aameen.
Shaykh `Abdul Hafeez Makki رحمة الله عليه was one of my Asaatidhah (teachers) in Hadeeth. I did al-Awaa'il as-Sumbuliyyah under him, and the very first Hadeeth I ever learnt from him was al-Hadeeth al-Musalsal bil-Awwaliyyah.
A very unique Hadeeth, that one. Al-Hadeethul Musalsal bil-Awwaliyyah. It is from the "Musalsalaat". Students of Hadeeth and Mustalah-ul-Hadeeth will be familiar with it. The unique aspect of it is that, it is the very first Hadeeth every Shaykh-ul-Hadeeth narrates to his students. So, it is the very first Hadeeth they ever hear from him. And with him, in turn, it was the very first Hadeeth he heard from his Ustaadh in Hadeeth. And his Ustaadh, it was the very first Hadeeth he had ever heard from his Ustaadh in Hadeeth, and so on, right up till Rasoolullaah
It was the very first Hadeeth I ever heard from Shaykh `Abdul Hafeez Makki, and it was the very first Hadeeth Shaykh `Abdul Hafeez Makki had ever heard from his Ustaadh in Hadeeth, Maulana Zakariyyah Kandhlawi رحمة الله عليه, and it was the very first Hadeeth Maulana Zakariyyah had ever heard from his Ustaadh, etc. etc. all the way up.
This Hadeeth is also known as "Hadeeth-ur-Rahmah" (The Hadeeth of Mercy).
The Hadeeth is:
Rasoolullaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "The merciful ones, ar-Rahmaan (The All-Merciful) shows mercy to them. Have mercy upon those in the earth and the One Above the Heavens (i.e. Allaah) will have mercy upon you."
This is al-Hadeethul Musalsal bil-Awwaliyyah. Hadeethur Rahmah.
A unique Hadeeth, taken from a unique Ustaadh, i.e. Shaykh `Abdul Hafeez Makki
May Allaah Ta`aalaa fill his Qabr with Noor, Aameen Yaa Rabb-al-`Aalameen.
