Assalamu Alaikum
This thread is made for new reverts inshallah. This year will be the first ramadan many of them will experience. They may not know what to expect. It would be great if some of you can share stories and tips about your first ramadan as reverts, or what you do every ramadan if you're not a revert.
Here are some tips that I hope will help some of you inshallah!
1. FAST NOW
If you have never fasted before, start now! Don't wait until ramadan. It's sunnah to fast on mondays and thursdays, so you can do that inshallah to help build up your fasting stamina. You can also try fasting half-days until you can achieve a full day of fasting. Even though it may seem daunting to fast for a whole month, it gets easier because your body adjusts!
2. DO MORE SUNNAH
Ramadan is when you experience the most out of the Islamic community. Muslims are giving in charity, praying more, making more dua, and trying to be overall better muslims. If you can find time to do more in regards to your worship, ramadan is the best time to do it because you will get more reward inshallah, but again, better to prepare ahead and build the good habit so you can gain endurance whether it's for long taraweeh sessions or tahajjud.
3. PREPARE MEALS AHEAD OF TIME
If you have a busy schedule and do not have time to cook for iftar, you can always make meals ahead of time and freeze them. Take them out of the fridge to defrost, and pop them in the oven to cook or heat up. Many masjids also offer free iftar for everyone who is there for maghrib.
4. QUIT YOUR BAD HABITS
Do you smoke? Do you curse a lot? Caffeine addict? Whatever it is, you should quit so you're not having withdrawal symptoms or regret
.
5. PRACTICE QURAN
When you have muslim friends, USE THEM! use them to practice your pronunciation and memorization of the Quran. You will both get rewarded for it and I'm sure Allah will pour his blessings on both of you for benefiting one another. Aww
