Namaz

Salaam,

I recently had iftari at my friends house and the conversation about praying came up.

I have always believed the full namaz should be read at all times unless life or death situations. What i mean by this is to read all the Sunnath, Farz, Nafil - depending which namaz it is.

My friends were saying that this is not the case and do not have to read sunnath or Nafil.

Also that taravee is read in 4 raqath whereas I've always learnt it must be done in 2's.

Another concern is, namaz should be ready with a hijab that covers all hair and is not see-through. also big enough to cover the chest and possibly most of arms. These girls did not do this.

Sorry for the list but in Qazaa namaz, I know you read the Farz only but should a dua be done at the end of the Farz as if you were reading at the end of any namaz and then start the new namaz?



What are your views on this?
 
I don't know the correct answer, but i don't pray my nafil unless i have extra time and energy and the will. And i haven't been praying all of my sunnah if i am limited on time and tired - this is something i am working on improving everyday.

Without a doubt the hair should be fully covered (no see through scarves) and the whole neck and whole arms. Nothing AT ALL should be on show apart from the feet from below the ankles, the hands from below the wrists, and the face chin to forehead only. I'm afraid all of their namaaz has been invalid if they have prayed like this, please inform your friends ASAP - if i am incorrect in saying this then someone please correct me.

Regarding dua after farz namaaz, as far as i personally understand, dua is better made after farz namaaz, and more likely to accepted, but it is not compulsory. I have been trying to do this, but i find if i make dua after farz namaaz it makes me get comfy and like i have finished namaaz and then it feels harder to carry on with the rest of the namaaz.

Do you mean that their scarf didnt cover their arms and chest? or that their clothing didnt cover these parts? I mean praying in half or three quarter sleeves is certainly invalid but if for example they were wearing abaya with a small scarf yet their body was covered then they are still fulfilling the requirements

I assumed she meant it wasn't covered at all, but yes if it was covered with an abaya, or anything at all, then it is fine. As long as everything that is required to covered, is covered, and it is not tight or see through, then it is fine.

Also i have been confused about the tarawee in 4 rakaats myself, years ago my alima told me we could do that, but i have been told and read you can't, so i don't anymore.

Of course there's the matter of trying to secure for ourselves that our non-fard salah may compensate for deficiencies in our fard salah and get us through without having to face the hisab, but it would be good if someone could write about how to balence this with also following the hadith where Aisha (ra) said that RasoolAllah (saw) always took the easiest path in doing good deeds and the hardest one in avoiding sins (I couldn't find the text of the hadith while searching). Just an example that comes to my mind is that "how much of a great deal of striving is required of us if we are to make our homes 100% free of animate pictures?"

start telling them to cover up during prayer. this is common sense surely how old are they?

Fard must always be completed at the correct time period.

Sunnah is recommended, and does not have to be completed, but i would always advise you do.
Nafl, should do it if you time but you dont have to, and again will 5 mins hurt anyone?

When doing salah, hijab must be observed always or salah becomes invalid, simply everything should be covered except the face and hands. And it can't be transparent. Please advise them!

Yes you may do a dua after doing Qaza. I suggest you take that time to repent, and inshaAllah try not to miss it again.

Brother Najm has informed you correctly.

It is a bit extreme to say that all salaah has to be performed unless life or death situation. The prophet -pbuh- started praying Taraweeh in Ramadan alone, and the second night people followed him, and the group was getting larger. Fifth night or so (can't remember) he was told by Aisha -RA- that a lot of people were gathered waiting for him to lead them in prayer. He stayed indoors until the morning and did not come out. When they asked him about why he wouldn't lead them, he -pbuh- said: "I did not want it to become obligatory on you." God and the prophet -pbuh- had mercy on us, and that is why obligation is obligation (fard), wajeb is wajeb, and nafel is just that, nafel (means voluntary).

As for your question about Taraweeh, the prophet -pbuh- said: "Night prayers are in pairs (two followed by two and so on), and if you fear dawn is upon you then one." Taraweeh prayer is the same, prayed in two rakaa then Salam, and then stand with a fresh Takbeeratul Ihraam for another two. Authenticated Sunnah is that they were eight rakaa in addition to Shafa and Witr, so it's 11 total. However they used to be long and sometimes go through half the night, which the companions enjoyed listening to the prophet himself pronouncing the glorious Quran. After his passing the number of rakaa was increased to 20. Maliki says can be 36. Those who hold on to authenticated sunnah pray 8, while those who wish to follow the hadith that says "whomever prays with the Imam (after Isha) until he leaves will be written as have prayed all night" pray all 20. It is a matter of disagreement a bit as to which is better. But in both cases, it is always prayed in pairs.
