As Salamu Alaikum sisters and brothers,

I'm wondering what the letters in Hadith of Imam Muslim actually mean. For example, randomly choices Hadiths:

https://sunnah.com/muslim:378b

This has the suffix "b"

https://sunnah.com/muslim:378d

This has the suffix "d"

https://sunnah.com/muslim:379

This has no suffix

https://sunnah.com/muslim:380a

This has the suffix "a"

I also found the suffix "c" in other Hadiths.

I couldn't find something in the foreword of Imam Muslim about it or any source on the internet about this topic. The referred website did no wrote anything about this as well, as far I have seen at least.

Thank you in advance.

:wasalam:

The suffix indicates continuation or narrations related to the original Hadith for further explanation. For example, all these are related to the call to prayer:

https://sunnah.com/muslim:378b
https://sunnah.com/muslim:378c
https://sunnah.com/muslim:378d

As Salamu Alaikum AabiruSabeel,
sorry, I read the post but forget the reply - thank you very much for the clarification.

Best regards
