Should you search through the Ahadith and related Fiqh you will find that singing is not the issue, but what is being sung and how.
To elaborate, the words of the song cannot contain anything that's against Shariah and "how" the song is sung as to the Adab (Islamic Manners) in other words not in any provocative way or the use of inappropriate body movements.
The prophet s.a.w once praised one group of singers and severely admonished another giving proof to the above mentioned.
As for music that's a debate that's still going on with some saying out right Haram others say it depends on the instruments and others on the purpose for example to calm the insane like Ibn Kathir rahimullah advised.
