New revert with non Muslim spouse

Hello I am a new revert to Islam. My question to all of you is . Are there any other people on this forum that are reverts or born Muslims who have spouses which either do not like Islam at all or have no interest in the faith? I myself was spiritual before but had no connection to a religion. My spouse has grown up Christian but doesn't practice. Whenever I mention anything about Muslim people or Islam in general he has a very bad reaction. I can only think that it is due to him having served in the military during desert storm. I try to help him see that not all Muslims or middle eastern people are bad . There are bad in all walks of life and religions . Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle this situation?

No I sadly dont have any Muslim friends . I live in a predominantly Mormon area. I live in the state of Utah in the United States . Even the closest masjid is 3 hours from me. So I'm not even able to visit a masjid or speak with an imam .

I appreciate your courage to practice upon Islamic teachings in such non Islamic ambience.

No he will not join. He is very uncomfortable when it comes to Islam and middle eastern people in general . I am worried to tell him I have converted

I am curious: how did you manage to convert within an area that has virtually no support for the Islamic faith?

As for hostility to Muslims, I would point to a quotation from a western philosopher:

"When the representatives of a given principle prove to be unworthy of it, the criticism of them extends immediately to the principle itself and is especially directed against it. Instead of acknowledging that some individuals are not at the level of the principle, and instead of requiring that they be replaced by qualified individuals, it is claimed that the principle itself is false, corrupt, or passe, and that it should be replaced with a different principle"

In other words, most non-Muslims (such as your spouse) who express dislike for Muslims, or even Islam itself, have little or no understanding of the faith itself, and must remember to separate the faith from those who practice it. This is true for Christianity as well--how many Christians do we see who do not live up to the standards of that faith, or who twist their beliefs to satisfy some worldly political or social objective?

Probably the best course of action here is to introduce your husband to other Muslims, have him visit a masjid, attend some lectures on the faith, etc. If he loves and respects you he will do this. He can then make an informed decision regarding the faith.
