Is this actually allowed in islam.
In our pakistani families the non-mehram men always greet the women by placing their hands on the womens head. I just wondered if this was made up or what?

AssalamuAlaykum

Often times, people confuse culture with religion. This is a cultural matter rather than a religious practice.

lol is it called "pyar dena" and you lower your head so they can touch it, if you think at it rationally it shouldnt be allowed, because a non mahram shouldnt touch a mahram period innaay

their is so much culture thrown round these days, it damages the religion

Oh my days, this happened to me in the surgery, to Pakistani blokes were chattin and I happen to be waiting in the line before one of them, he was engaging in his lingo with an elderly pakistani bloke, and then all of a sudden he look at me and says something like ...' yaar...........da da da beta' Now I know the last one means daughter or something alike, so I'm guessing he thought I was the other dudes daughter and he patted me on the head and I was like...Eeek then the other dude said something in pakistani, I'm guessing he said something like 'Nah she aint mine...' And then the other bloke gaved me a dirty look! Hmpfh!!

This must stop! :-[

Yes that is very culturallll. Only my uncles do it to me lol. When I say uncles I mean related lol. But if random dudes did that to me. I'd be like EEK!!!! No touchy!
