I've been looking at some old threads and noticed one on this subject. There were a lot of references saying that those who reject faith (ie reject Islam) will be in the Fire etc.
Many new Muslims feel absolutely desolate to be told this and simply cannot understand how their beloved parent/grandparent/offspring will 'burn in hell for eternity'. I would ask all you Muslims to understand that it's a very sensitive subject and can take some time before the new Muslim feels at peace with this issue.
my grandmother was born at the turn of the previous century in Ireland and died more than 20 years ago. She never met a Muslim in her life as far as I know. If I wrote here a few details of her life it would make most of you cry. she raised me and my siblings and gave us her love and protection which were sorely needed, and she had faith in God. Although her religion was catholicism she did not have any 'mary fixation' and I only ever heard her pray to God. However undoubtedly she did have confusion about Jesus a.s. and the Trinity. How would she not, given the time and place in which she lived?
I don't accept assurances from any Muslim that her ultimate destination is Hellfire. Allah ta'ala is the Judge and only He knows what is in the hearts of us all. She prayed a lot in her final months, and who knows what answers she got or what understanding she may have come to before death, by the Grace of Allah ta'ala.
Personally, alhamdulillah I have absolute confidence that Allah swt is the Most Just of Judges, and will not do the least injustice to any one of us. This is why I am now at peace with this subject.
Also, I would like to remind everyone (including myself) not to be dismissive of those who are rejecting Islam but ask ourselves whether we are giving them the best example and truly conveying the beautiful message in the most beautiful way.
