Peace, one and all...
There was this dramatic account of a youthful Sayyid Abu Yazid al-Bustami with a condescending Hadith Scholar, to whom Abu Yazid replies with a stunning revelation of his level of mystical experience.
''A man from the Hadith Folk said to Abu Yazid, ''Do you pray properly''?. He said, ''Yes, God Willing''. So he asked, ''How do you pray''? He said, ''I Proclaim 'God is Most Great' in obedience, I recite with modulation, I kneel in veneration, I prostrate with humility, and I give salutation full of peace''. Then he said, ''Boy, if you have this understanding, execellence of knowledge, why do you permit the people to touch you seeking blessing''?.
He replied, ''They are not touching me, they are only touching an adornment with which my Lord has adorned me. Should I forbid them from that, when it does not [in fact] belong to me?''.
