Pakistani pilot sacked for refusing to cut beard

The government of Pakistan yesterday defended a decision to retire an air force pilot who refused to trim his beard for religious reasons.

It said that pilots flying at high altitude "can malfunction as a result of beards being too bushy", mainly because they could interfere with oxygen masks.

It was the latest chronicle in a struggle between the country's secular-minded majority led by President Pervez Musharraf, who has a moustache, and bearded Islamists who form the major opposition party in parliament and a minority in the armed forces.

Sqn Ldr Mohsin Hayat Ranjha was retired in October and four colleagues grounded for breaking the air force dress code that allows trimmed beards but bars long ones.

Many ustazs in Malaysia ask Muslims to trim their beard because it's easier to take ablution. I think having a well trimmed beard (or small goatie) is kinda metrosexual.:happy:

i dont see why he should have to change his proffession....just because of some silly little men who think they are knowledgeable...its not him who has to change but it is them who have to change their thinking

A'salaam alaykum brothers and sisters ,

Muslims cannot practice islam even in Islamic countries so how can we expect freedom to muslims in non muslim countries. Many muslim countries are corrupted. One can find alcohol trade, prostitution, Night clubs etc, because most of the muslim leaders are on payrole of foreign western countries they are not concern for the well being of muslim ummah.
