‘AbdurRahman Ibnu ‘Auf arrives at Madina as an immigrant from Mecca penniless and entirely dependent upon others, a situation which he wouldn’t accept for himself.
Thus the moment his feet would make contact with the soil of Madina, he wouldn’t give them rest till he’d found a way to free himself from the humility of reliance, even if his benefactors were his very Muslim brethren!
Sa’d Ibnur Rabee’ had offered him half of his wealth and even more extraordinarily, one of two his wives; an unprecedented scene of brotherhood! ‘AbdurRahman however turns down his offer, making du’ah for his wealth and family but has one simple request:
“Guide me to the market place”
A statement which our brothers are to remember the next time they unnecessarily call upon their fathers for more, or depend upon the system whilst being more than capable of earning an honourable and independent living.
Track down your desired trade, dear brother, exert every effort in it till your feet throb and then shower your parents with what Allah subsequently gives you from goodness.
"Let not one of you sit at home saying: 'Oh Allah, please provide for me' Because you know very well that the sky doesn't rain gold or silver!" (Omar Ibnul Khattab)
Where's your 'market' place?!
