Prison Visitation Order

Brothers and Sister,

Usually your all great with advice so i really need some help, from the title you guessed that a mate (Muslim Arab) well i use the term 'friend' lightly for now. we were tight back in the day but i haven't seen him since well he was convicted, things changed a lot but well I've been given a prison visitation order to go see him, and well I was contemplating whether i should see him and well a brother started saying he made the effort to choose you to go and see him and well perhaps it'd be good if you could show him how Islam changing your life and he might follow as well............... but i wouldn't know where to begin in giving him a dawah, any useful sites n tips much appreciated :statisfie

why not go see how he is first and be a good listener and then assess how to take it from there? It is best to survey a situation before jumping in head first imho

I'm not sure what is giving you second thoughts about going, but don't let it be nervousness about da'wah. Da'wah should be the easy part, because simply the fact that you've gone and visited a brother in need and offered consolation and support is itself a good action. And sometimes it is our actions by which others are moved, not necessarily the words we say.

But whatever encouragement you can offer him will undoubtedly also be valuable. In telling him how Islam has changed your life, you only need to be yourself: just describe how it has made you feel, opened new doors and helped you in many ways etc.

P.S. Perhaps you can take a little gift (if that's allowed) - maybe a beneficial book, or a small Qur'an if he doesn't have one.

jazakallah Khair Brother, perhaps i can take a small gift, i believe stationery such as pencil, books are allowed but i'll check the rules and regulation letter again to make sure :statisfie........ my doubts are just i really do not wish to go back and revisit the old me, i really just want to put it all behind me and never ever look back at it now, the visitation just brought back memories. And i know I'm suppose to give him the benefit of the doubt since i haven't seen in him in a few years but i feel terrible for saying it but i really don't think he would change from day dot he's always been involved in crime and Prison only makes you a bigger criminal :hmm:.

Anyway i put these doubts aside and I'm willing to help him

you might be in for a suprise he might already be quite practising, islam is on a rise among inmates, they all need faith in Allah to cope

but even if he aint take him some free dawah material and stuff he can read, ask around in masjids you can usually get a hold of some

i myself have also been to a few prison visits. You should definatley go because those brothers realise when they are inside how their true friends really are. Most of the time the four walls to make them realise their mistakes but they need a lot of guidance as they can still be lead astray in prison hence why a lot of prisoners come out and re-offend.

Go and see your friend and just be yourself and let him know your not the same person as before and that you are striving to go towards Allah and that he should also do the same. Let him ralsie that this may be a blessing in disguise and that you are there for him and that Allah is most merciful and forgiving and so if he sincerely repents for his mistakes then Allah may forgive him but if he has hurt anyone then he must also ask them for forgiveness.

Let him realise that he should now learn from his mistakes and do things better now and the future. Let him realise that death is around the corner and can come at ANY second so he should prepare for the hereafter lest death takes him. Let him realise that he has wasted enough time already and that now he should concentrate on making the best of every second and learn from his past errors and mistakes.

Give him things to think about because he will have four walls around him which will force him to think about so many things. Give him good Islamic books to read and contemplate on.

Give him a copy of the Qur'an aswell as tafseer so that he may realise what Allah wants from us and what he is telling us in the Qur'an.

Encourage him to pray all of his Salaah and that by fulfilling the obligations to Allah he will find peace, tranquility, contentment and happiness in his heart that he never felt before.

Encourage him to remember Allah as much as he can and even give him a dhikr counter like a rosary or metal counter so that he can do dhikr and contemplate on the greatness of Allah and over his creations.
