I heard a few mosques that have changed their direction of prayer as someone comes along and says look this is not exactly facing qibla.

So now a mosque which was set to pray in a particular direction that fitted in with the layout of the building, has to change the carpet and furniture round by say 5 to 30 degrees so that it fits in with this new guys compass.

But surely when they built the mosque or set out the first layout of prayers they would have used a compass to do so not just had a wild guess.

So if your mosque decides they arent exactly facing qibla should they reaarange the layout?

Bear in mind over distance even half a degree can make you hundreds of miles off you target?

So even if you use a compass and face exactly qibla direction but your like thousands of miles from Saudi Arabia, if you out by just half a degree youve already missed qibla and could be facing sydney harbour bridge.

There is a margin of error allowed. If you face in the general direction of Makkah, then it is ok.

Those who are inside Masjid Al-Haraam should exactly face the Ka'bah, but those outside are allowed to face the Masjid Al-Haraam, and those even far away should face in the direction of Makkah. As long as the Ka'bah is between your two shoulders direction, it is acceptable.

Even if the mosques face Makkah with high precision, that would not be a guarantee that you face Makkah inside of this mosque with this precision.

Like Aabiru says, some margin of error is OK.

Besides, not all mosques are built with such precise and sophisticated equipment.
other mosques were just normal buildings with other purposes, converted into mosques later on.
