The words that used in Indonesian official of Qur'an translation is melukai (jari) tangan (injured (fingers) hands). It's means, according to Indonesian Mufaseer, those women injured their fingers, not cut their hands.Wrists? The qur'an did not specify which part of the hands, or how deep the cuts were.
In the Qur'an it is narrated as "hands".

The word in Arabic words in this particular ayah is وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ now this means they cut their hands, not their fingers, however the Arabic meaning for أَيْدِيَهُنَّ can be translated as hand or wrist or both. However to the extent to which they cut it is unknown. The whole point was to emphasise on the beauty of Yusuf AS.
