Ramadhan is not as Eating Contest

;D Hehe, that was actually pretty funny. I'll admit I've done that a few times :omg:
Nice reminder, sis :D

Very true! Thanks for sharing this. I'm a convert, and this is my 4th Ramadhan, alhamudillah. How do you all keep up your exercise schedules? I usually exercise in the mornings, and my gym closes at 9 pm. I don't want to exercise during the day and dehydrate myself. Any advice? I could walk around, but I like aerobic exercises and get my heart rate really going! and I hate running :D

Difficult one, areen, if you like hard exercise, but don't want to dehydrate. What do Muslim athletes do?

Perhaps you have to stick to more gently exercise, such as walking. It's only for a month.
If you can't find a solution, I guess Ramadan should come before your exercise regime?

And you don't like running??! Running is the best! :D

Assalamu-alaikum ukthi,

MashaAllah, this is your 4th Ramadaan : )

Considering that this blessed month of Ramadaan compares to no other month in the year, we should prepare to make allowances for not engaging in as much 'worldly-related' activities......so that we optimise every minute in ibaadat/ worship.

The body also needs to make many energy-saving adjustments during fasting, and considering this, we should try to conserve our energy (where possible) for reciting Quraan, performing extra/ optional salaah, taraweeh prayers in the evening, etc.

Also, depending on the level of activity/ exercise, one can be placed at higher risk of dehydration.

You have mentioned aerobics - I am not sure of your particular gym, but if these sessions involve music whilst exercising (as they often do), this should be avoided, if not on other days, then especially in the month of Ramadaan.
We should try to avoid places that even indirectly ensnare us into haraam activities.
(If its possible to listen to your own instrument-free nasheeds/ lectures via head-phones, then perhaps this can be over-come.....)

I also enjoy exercising, keeping fit, and swimming : )

During Ramadaan, I cut back on exercising to a large degree.......perhaps only doing a few stretches/ exercises in the morning at home - just to 'feel' toned.

Fasting in itself has many health benefits, including losing weight (for those with weight issues, this is a great time to optimise on), insha Allah - so there is no need to place the body under too much strain from excessive exercising.

Ramadaan Mubarak!

:wa:

I suggest the bros/sis who wish to monitor their food intake to make sure that they're not overeating please sign up at myfitnesspal.com! It's easy and helpful!

I plan to work out in the morning :D

There are actually quite a few people(non-muslims) who practice "intermittent fasting" which is fasting for long hours and then having a short amount of hours for them to eat which according to some have great benefit. It sounds very similar to our fasting in Ramdan except they still drink water. Anyway what I'm saying is that some of them still manage to get their workout done even though on fast but usually do it just before their "eating window". So maybe you can try that sis, work out, go home, iftar. Enjoy fat loss

Thanks for all of your advice, I appreciate it. This is definitely a great reminder about letting go of the "worldly" things, and that includes exercise :) I go to Bikram Yoga. it's like yoga in a sauna room, and I once went while fasting a couple of years ago... let's say it was quite a challenge to continue the whole class without drinking water, and to go the rest of the day. The instructor even said it's good to go without water during class, only for those who are experienced. And in the gym, I usually use the stepping machine and work up a sweat. Intermeditite fasting sounds like a good idea, I'll look into it.

I'll practice moderate eating, and not indulge in too much sweets! I'll go for walks after iftar, and the dog is going to appreciate going out on more walks (it's a service dog, btw).

Easy... don't exercise. :) no kidding, it works :) Also, you might wanna reconsider those aerobics since it is always advised to have a glass of water or two after exercise, so the heart doesn't get too stressed.

besides, if you are exercising outside of ramadhan, then why not just leave ramadhan as a type of detox time>? without the exercise? :)

Very True . Ramadan shouldnt be looked at as an eating contest . We are infact still eating 3 meals Sahr , Iftar and Dinner and Normally in non -ramadan times we eat dinner at 9:00 PM and breakfast at 9:00 PM . So we are basically fasting 365 days of the year

Ramadan is a month of mercy with devils chained and when Quran was revealed where rewards for good deeds are doubled and punishments for sins is doubled .We are supposed to realize the needs of the poor and give to them and spend the time finishing quran and reading nafl prayers

A funny way to remind us not to overeat during Ramadan. I personally do not like praying with a full stomach. It just doesn't feel the same. This Ramadan In Sha"Allah, there will be no solid food till Taraweeh.

On a lighter note,

An indian can take anything that's healthy, and make it unhealthy. Carrot Halwa!
lol : )
