It could.
Like money and power, which could be used for good, it is powerless on its own. Wielded in the wrong hands it could be devastating for people.
Religion teaches you right. People do otherwise.
Christ teaches us to turn the other cheek, to forgive, so did Muhammad, peace be upon them both.
WW1 & WW2 were not religion based. Most major wars were not. They were fuelled by greed guised under other things..
I wonder what religious beliefs caused the Russia-Ukrain war? Or was it foreign political powers with vested interests?
In a nutshell, your input really is an easy way out to brandish religious beliefs as being without purpose.

As greenhill said, if people people obeyed their religion, there would be no wars. The greater good path in religion is to seek peace.
