Rubbing money on the head

Where I live, alot of people rub the money on the head of the person on whose behalf the sadaqah is being given.

Did the prophet do this? I would like reference because there are also many people who don't do this and say it's not neccesary.

Wa'alaikumsalam.

That is not sunnah, but local custom that based on superstition. Muslims in other places don't do that.
