In January, Shamil Basayev gave an interview, published on Chechen websites, in which he said that Sadulayev planned to hold a big Majlis of Caucasian Mujahideen in spring 2006. Basayev also said he intends to cross the river Volga in summer.
The member of Russian gang, somebody named Anatoly Petrov, does not exclude that in the summer Mujahideen will really make expedition to Volga. Russians remain in full uncertainty about the future operations of Mujahideen as, on Petrov's recognition, “there are effectively no reliable data on the number of their forces”. However, in Petrov's opinion, the basic bulks of impacts on Russian occupational troops can be inflicted this summer in Karachai-Cherkessia or Adygeia.
Petrov said that the Mujahideen still enjoy support amongst the Chechen population “not only amongst young people but even among religious figures, and quite possibly among officials too”. Nobody know anything about the exact number of Mujahideen who operate in Chechnya.
In January, Russian “general” somebody named Oleg Khotin put the number at 750, while pro-Moscow Chechen munafiq Ramzan Kadyrov said there were just 250.
The 23-year-old fighter Islam speaks to IWPR with confidence about the future. "We are fated to victory," he said with a confident stare from unblinking eyes. "Because we have the two best choices - victory or paradise. Both are good for us. We will either eject the Russian aggressors from Chechnya and the entire Caucasus, or we will become Shaheeds on the path of Allah and go to paradise. There is no third option".
