Seeking Allah's Help before Others

Salaam,
I heard that when faced with hardships, you should seek Allah's help before another person. Is this obligatory or encouraged and recommended. Is it a sin if you don't do this.

It's highly recommended, it mostly has to do with how sincere you are and the situation itself.
