I see people with less self-control, leading to them struggling to sort themselves out and being religious.
There are some points to consider in Islam:
1. Nowhere does it say that you have the time for counselling and support groups-you could die at anytime
2. When people are critical of some groups they claim that don't understand mental illness - I don't believe that it's about they don't understand but the world was not setup that way. For example, they had to go out and work, farm etc and get food on the table and not just hold sessions with people.
3. This is not meant to be a criticism of people with mental health issue, but I believe that the system is geared to tell people just to sit there and talk -here Allah is not going to be saying to anyone that they should have sat with you to support you whilst in this world-that wasn't the criteria. With people in the past and many examples you do need to take each day as it comes and learn more understand your own behaviours.
4. There are children who are aren't taught much to self control their minds and bodies. Used to be an emphasis on the little things that have huge importance-to sit still, when visiting other people's homes to be respectful, dinner times to eat properly-all leading to self-control and discipline. I am not saying that this is the issue with everyone (as they need to understand their own behaviours and what makes them tick), but to highlight there are instances were people don't build proper self control, this is here the Shaytaan takes advantage.
5. Like to also use the end example of wrong doers, they may still and destroy property-all down to lack of control, if they were at a party, they would probably want to take more that their fare share of cake, if they liked what someone else had they wish to take it. What people are being taught today is to get everyone else to be nice to them-people should be respectful. But here, the evil doers believe that if they were just given everything that they would be good-but this is wrong as they are not sorting themselves out, but asking the environment to be changed for them. Even Allah didn't just give Paradise to them. There is a lot of blame game and not proper talking of how to deal with problems, but more of how to make others understand. Well Allah is not going to treat that individual as if they were treated badly, if they were not able to participate in a counselling session, that such and such person didn't understand them-as that is not the criteria or the job for anyone to do. To be kind yes, but to ask people to sit and work, which is what is essentially the level of the own mind works doesn't make any sense. As Muslims we give the poor their due-it is not about giving people whatever they want, if we did that it would just be following the desires of people.
6. People wouldn't be asking their elderly parents to provide them with more support due to mental health issues, they've already done the job of raising them up-asking too much-again not the setup. This is where Allah is not going to say to anyone on the Day of Judgement that should have just sat and support and motivated people -as that is treating this world like you have all the time in the world.
Need to hold onto the fact that this is a test, and not a life, there is no guarantee that you will get what you want, Allah says that he may give you something of what you ask for, not he definitely well. The time that is being spent and discussions had is a distraction from their test and their reward in the hereafter. I agree with the fact that it is a serious issue, but somehow no matter how many information is put forward, relevant questions are not being asked, such as expectations of what they can have and in terms of the setup of this world, were anything could happen i.e natural disaster. I think people use references from people in the past going through a bad time, to endorse it's OK for them to be that way, but what they have to remember is that none of the people in the past asked for support groups to have a chit chat with, or a complaint of others that they didn't understand what they were going through.
I think people are less disciplined which explains some of the problems they do go through, following bad desires and looking at the life of this world.
