Re: Shaykh Faraz Rabbanni & Shaykh Zakariya - Tradition In Modern Times - Nov 30th

Shaykh Mohammad Zakariya ibn Ismail began his journey of seeking traditional knowledge at a very early age. Travelling to Darul Uloom al-Arabiyyah al-Islamiyyah in the city of Holcombe, Bury in northern England, he would stay for over a decade beginning his studies with the memorization of the Holy Quran, which he completed at a tender age. Upon completing his memorization he began the study of arabic, jurisprudence and other Islamic sciences comprising the madrassa syllabus. During his final year he completed the six canonical collections of hadith [Sihah al-Sitta] under the tutelage of several masters including Shaykh Yusuf ibn Sulayman Motala, Shaykh Islam ul-Haqq and, his uncle, Shaykh Hashim all senior students of the hadith master Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi.
Shaykh Zakariya grew up in a household of immense piety having had the honour of staying with and serving some of the leading ulema of the Indian sub-continent. During the course of his studies he also travelled to places throughout the Muslim world and was able to meet many of the foremost scholars from whom he derived great benefit such as his father in-law Shaykh Abdur Rahim ibn Sulayman Motala.
He currently resides in Toronto serving as the Imam of Masjid al-Taqwa where he holds lessons in Islamic spirituality as well as weekly gatherings of knowledge.
