Sihr is witchcraft, and it is a metaphysical reality that occurs when ill-intentioned people either cast spells or blow into items or do knots to affect the physical reality.
Read this wonderful educational book that I'd recommend for all Muslims as a must-read/must-have called Sword Against Black Magic and Evil Magicians.
Everybody should read it and learn to protect themselves from sihr and ayn as those two things can destroy a person's worldly life and maybe even aakhirah as well.
