Namaz = Salat = Prayer is the second pillar of the 5 pillars that are in Islam.

1) Salat-ul-Fajr. The morning Prayer

It is the first of the Five obligatory prayers of the day.lt can be performed at any time between the breaking of the dawn till sunrise.

(2) Salat-ul-Zuhr. The noon prayer

Its time begins after the sun declines from its zenith until it is about midway from setting.

(3) Sa la t-ul -Asr. The afernoon prayer

Its time begins soon after the time for Zuhr prayer ends and extends to just before sunset

(4) Salat-ul-Maghrib. The evening prayer

Its time begins just after sunset and extends to a period of an hour and a half.

(5) Salat-ul-lsha. The night prayer.

Its time begins about an hour and a half after sunset and extends to dawn.

During these prayers does one recite certain prayers:?

well it depends on what position of praying you are, for example if you are on the standing straight position, it is a must that you have to recite Al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Qur'an...etc.. inshaallah I will find a link that explains the whole prayer thing, or maybe someone else too.

The prayers are pretty much the same, just different number of rakats (units of prayer)

1 rakat consists of Standing and reciting the first chapter of the quran, al fatiha, which is 7 verses. after that bowing and saying "subhana rabbiyal adheem" 3 times. standing up, then going into prostration and saying "subhana rabbiyal ala" 3 times, sitting up, prostrating again. sitting up. dont know if that makes sense, i didnt include everything in it. but there are many sites and video, books about learning the prayer. http://english.islamway.com/sindex.php?section=prayer

A$ingh, the first thing I would recommend you to learn about Tauheed (the Oneness of Allah). but anyways it's up to you

Re: Islam - Frequently Asked Questions

Wow thanks but i need to chat to someone one on one about converting and family issues, thats why am looking for an ex-Sikh or even ex-Hindu that i can relate tohew
from what I have seen, I can tell you that you will be beaten up at the very least. as will the imaam who teaches you Shahadah, then a case of kidnapping and forced conversion will be registered against him

If you are serious keep it quite and read up on the subject,

Peace to all

A$ingh, do not worry you have joined in one of the greatest forums around, all praises be to God, you'll learn loads and hopefully make your mind up, just ask for help and you'll find it! Read books and ask questions to other Muslims (not your friends as they don't seem very practising) and find out, do research and hopefull if God wills, you'll find answers to questions but this site hopefully will benefit you.

Peace to all.
