Some Athaar Regarding Fasting
‘Alee (رضي الله عنه) said:
“Fasting is not abstaining from food and drink; rather fasting is [abstaining] from lying, falsehood and Laghw (evil speech/nonsense/gossip).” [1]
‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنهما) said:
“The fortitude of the religion and what it is built upon is the Salaat and Zakaat, one should not differentiate between the two of them, also the pilgrimage to Al Bayt Al Haraam and fasting Ramadaan. Indeed the most righteous of actions is giving charity and fasting.” [2]
Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah (رضي الله عنهما) said:
“If you fast, then your hearing and sight should also fast, your tongue [must also fast] from lying, [you must fast] from sins and abandon harming servants. You should be calm and dignified on the day that you fast. Do not make a day that you fast similar to a day that you don’t.” [3]
Abu Dhar (رضي الله عنه) said:
“If you fast, safeguard yourself as much as you possibly can.” [4]
