The Role of the Qur'an

Welcome to the forum.

That is historical.. something I really have not learnt about.

Perhaps there will be others who know.

Wishing you a great stay.

So you don't have an answer to my urgent question? Yet your Islamic. The question itself has baffled many for years and yet there is no true answer. However, I am merely asking for an opinion... Not a welcome statement.

How has the Qur'an played a role between the conflicting views of the Shi'ite and the Sunni.
The answer is that the Qur'an has played a negligible role. The conflicting views of the Shiite and Sunni originated from a dispute about who should be the leader of the Muslim people after the Prophet (sa) passed away. Some wanted Ali (ra) while others wanted Abu Bakr (ra). These people did not rely primarily on the Qur'an to justify their opinions. They relied mostly on purported statements from the Prophet (sa) and their own reasoning. As years passed the Shi ite people rejected many of the practices of the Abu Bakr (ra) group and each group has denounced certain claims by the other group of what the Prophet said and did and of what actually happened in Islamic history.

So the quick answer is that the differences have more to do with what the groups claim that the Prophet (sa) did and said outside of the Quran and also what they believed to have happened in Islamic history outside of the Quran.
