All in all, studies proved that there are differences between everyone and also every age for the same person.
In Islamic life, we know some scholars "or Ulamaa" who sleep actually around 4-5 hours a day at most. They invest each moment of their lives in "studying and preaching activities".
I have caught a valuable and funny advice from my sheikh in order to get rid of insomnia that is: read or listen to "Al-Quran" and you will have just two statuses:
1)-Al"****an" surely come to you and make you sleepy and drowsy, and so, you will fall asleep soon!
2) - In case of continuation of sleeplessness, you should know that Allah wants to "use you" to get more "Hasanat" and it's time for worshiping Allah in the night hours!
Last advice; do not think deeply in that problem, it will come to the end soon in shaa Allah.

-free you mind. make sure when you sleep you aren't over thinking.

-don't go to sleep whilst your brain is still switched on. in other words, if you are watching tv, using the computer, reading, talking, give yourself some time for your brain to switch off before putting your head on the pillow and trying to sleep. so finish doing what you are doing like 20-30 mins before you intend to sleep, just enough time for your brain and body to get to "sleeping mode"

-make sure your pillows, etc are comfortable

-wake up early so that you get tired during the day

-just generally make sure that you get sufficiently tired during the day

-dont go to sleep unless you are tired-this just makes you restless.

-drink warn milk with honey

-if its really bad, perhaps consider consulting your gp might help.
