The word Jihaad has been removed from school books and even from quoted Hadeeth narrations and the concept of Jihaad itself has been restricted to "Jihaad Annafs" on precluding fighting in the Path of Allaah!

What is "Jihaad Annafs" ?

:sl:

Jihaad an-Nafs :

"is an inner struggle of good against evil in the mind, through concepts such as tawhid (The Oness of Allah)." Ref: Wikipedia

1. Jihad an-nafs (jihad against one’s self) is of four kinds:

a. Striving to learn the teachings of Islam without which one cannot attain success and happiness in this world or in the Hereafter. If this is missing, then one is doomed to misery in this world and in the Hereafter.

b. Striving to make oneself act in accordance with what one has learned. Simply knowing without acting, even though it may not cause any harm, is not going to bring any benefit.

c. Striving to call others to Islam, teaching those who do not know about it. Otherwise one will be one of those who conceal the guidance and teaching that Allah has revealed, and it will not benefit him or save him from the punishment of Allah.

d. Striving to bear patiently the difficulties involved in calling people to Allah and the insults of people, bearing all that for the sake of Allah.

What does he mean by that???

there are 2 jihads.
there is the inner/spiritual struggle (annafs).
and the outer struggle (like war). the inner is the more difficult - and done by everyone.
the person is complaining that the concept of "jihad" has been censored entirely or it only mentions the inner aspect. either you get no jihad at all, or you only get half of it.

Peace:
Jihaad always means "struggle"
Struggle to avoid bad = Jihaad
Struggle to adopt good = Jihaad
Struggle to achieve knowledge = Jihaad
Struggle to serve humanity= Jihaad
The Quran has not used the word "Jihaad" in terms of "war" exclusively. For Holy war it has used the term"Qitaal".No doubt Qitaal is included in "Jihaad" but "Jihaad does not mean that is used only for Qitaal.
You will be surprised to know that Surahs in which "Jihaad" is mentioned were revealed in Mecca when the the Muslims could not even think of war. While the persmission of "Qitaal' was granted during Madani era.

Best of luck

thanks for the info, asadxyz. interesting.
i think qitaal means killing?
but the word "jihaad" does can mean either the inner or the outer struggle. so i think the OP statement was complaining that either "jihaad" isn't used at all any more, or it is used in the one aspect only.
btw, i don't know what school books he's talking about. probably it was done because some non-muslims hear the word "jihaad" and have a fit.
