What is so wrong on freely chating with oppisite genders?

I never understood why it is haram to freely chat with opposite genders, but I do chat because I like being social person, I like to make friends doesnt matter whether he is a boy or she is a girl, but I dont come near to zina(kissing) onlyafter marriage of course.

I,have found some valid reasons why it is haram, but in my case, I do not even come close to commit zina, I just make friends whether rhet might be girls or boys.

Can you perhaps, give me a clear explanation to why Islam bans free chatting with opposite genders?

Every letter or word even that we express can do something in return. I notice some people clumsily say things and it can either hurt, provoke, or do good.

Maybe it does not provoke you to zina but what about the girls feelings. She mighr relish the attention you give her and come to have strong feelinfs for you even if you are only teasing
