We cannot follow a scholar blindly because scholars are human who are not free from mistake. If they make a mistake in a fatwa and we follow it blindly, we will lost in the wrong way.
So, do not stick only to a scholar, or scholars only in a group. Always seek other references from other scholars. It will make us know when a scholar make a mistake.
But unfortunately, there are people who follow only scholars from one group, and regard scholars who are not in this group as not scholars. They follow those scholars blindly, even they have regard those scholars as "more than ordinary human".
Before I give example, I will explain, I always respect to all scholars including Shaykh Al-Uthaymin. But I can't say Shaykh Al-Uthaymin was free from mistake. He made a mistake when he said the sun revolve the earth.
I was in debate with a brother who blindly believe the sun rotate the earth. I told him, Shaykh Al-Uthaymin made a mistake his statement, and many other ulama are disagree with him. But he replied with "No one in the world has knowledge as high as Shaykh Al-Uthaymin. If he said the sun revolve the earth, the sun must be revolve the earth"
Another example. Maybe you have read statement "End of virginity if women drive car" that discussed in another thread. Believe it or not, I found this comment from someone who support Kamal Subhi "SubhanAllah, if ulama have said that would be happen, that must be happen in the future"
Look, he regard scholars as persons who can determine the future.
