Dear Raahil,
There is no such "punishment" that I know of in Sahih Al-Bukhary, it is just that you need to give a mahr (dowry) as a gift completely free from obligation to the bride (unlike today's traditions where it goes to the father who in turn uses it to pay for marriage preparations.

), and that can be as extravagant as anything or as basic as an iron or steel ring or in another hadith enough a few chapters of the Quran:
The prophet -pbuh- said: "Marry even with a steel ring" (Bukhary, book of Nikah, 5205)
on the authority of Sahl Ibn Saad Al-Sa'edi, he was amongst a group of people at the prophet's gathering and a woman stood and said: "Oh prophet of Allah, I would like to offer myself to you (in marriage), what would you say?" and the prophet said nothing, and again the woman said the same, and again the prophet said nothing, a third time she said the same, at which a man stood up and said: "Oh prophet, marry her to me" to which the prophet responded, "do you have anything to marry with?(dowry)" and he said no, so the prophet said: "Go and seek at least a steel ring" the man left, and he later came back and said he couldn't get one. The prophet said: "Do you have anything from the Quran" and the man answered "Yes, I have two chapters.." and he named the chapters, to which the prophet -pbuh- said "Go and marry her, I marry you to her with those chapters."
This is of course in specific to your question regarding what is in Sahih Bukhary only.
And God knows best
