We sacrifice animals and drink their blood to gain their inner strength.

we don't have "animal sacrifice" per se, as with ancient Hebrews/Jews and early Christians, we must slaughter according to methods that Allah gave to us.
in times before Christianity, it was simply called DINNER! or a FEAST! most folks maintained a vegetarian and/or fish diet for the most part [due to poverty.] when you ate an animal, however, that entailed "killing." as there weren't alot of atheist around, you slaughtered your animal and if you were a pagan, you dedicated it to one of your gods. if you were a Hebrew/Jew [and eventually Christian], you dedicated to Allah.
on Eid we DO Commemorate Abhraham pbuh and the attempted (sacrfice) of his son and distribute the meat to the poor. but it IS how we are supposed to eat every animal.
SO, in reality, it was how people ate. some Jews still maintain Kosher and most Muslims do. i don't have a clue about the pagans...
