Remember to unplug your phone charger at night, or any time when you are not using it, because it still uses energy even when it does not have a phone on it. TVs also do this, even when they are not on standby.

even if the tv's off?...wat about computers, when its hybernating its still off, isnt it?

No, they still use energy unless you turn it off at the socket. Not as much as leaving it on standby, but it still adds up.

Another way to save energy is to only put the amount of water you want to boil into a kettle. kettles use loads of energy, and simply doing this could save you loads of money.

Good reminder! Some TV's use the same amount of energy on stand-by as when they are on.

Other things worth switching off are:

1) PC (uses lots of power)
2) Shower
3) Kitchen Appliances that remain on stand-by like microwave.
4) All lights around the house that are not in use/Use energy-saving bulbs in hallways and wherever possible.
5) Turn off iron when there's one garment left to iron. It will provide enough heat to finish ironing.
6) Games consoles.

Trust me, ignore people when they say it ' uses a only a bit of electricity'. It all adds up and it's not them paying the bills!

Oh yeah, good one! To save even more energy, fill a hot-water flask and use that to make your cuppas throughout the day.


And if you don't have one, invest in a pressure cooker. It really cuts down on the time it takes to cook anything, especially meat.

A TV on stand-by uses as much as 80% of the energy that would be consumed in having it on.

We are on a month long trial at our house at the moment to see how much we might save by turning all unneccessary appliances off before bed..

I don't always remember to turn it all off, just need to set it in our routine really.

hmm well erm i leave the charger on at night, to charge my telephone booth, but when the battery is fully charged i still leave it on, im hardly going to get up in the middle of the night just to turn it off eh?

I guess one should just live life on the edge and invest in a tent SORTED

You can cut central heating costs by turning down the thermostat a few degrees too.
 
Sometimes i leave my Playstation console and my PC running for weeks and forget all about it,.... :exhausted

;D You joker!! But hmm....I switch off my monitor because it makes a 'hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm' sound all night, I can't even take the socket for the TV out, it's all the way behind the cupboard :X
