WHICH IS BETTER, SEEKING KNOWLEDGE OR DA'WAH ?
Ash Shaykh Al ‘Alaamah Saaleh ibn Fawzaan ibn ‘Abdillaah Al-Fawzaan

Question: Which of the two is better: seeking knowledge or giving Da'wah to Allaah the Most Perfect, the Most High?

Answer: Seeking knowledge firstly, because it is not possible for one to call to Allaah except if he has knowledge. If he does not have knowledge then he will be unable to call to Allaah, and if he were to give Da'wah, he would indeed make more errors than be correct.

So it is a condition in Da’wah to be upon knowledge before embarking upon Da'wah:

" Say this is my way, I call to Allaah upon Baseerah, I and whoever follows me." [Surah Yusuf/108]
There are some clear affairs that even a general person is able to call to, for example: the establishment of the prayer and the prohibition of abandoning it in congregation, to establish it in ones household and to order the children with the prayer. These affairs are clear, both the general person and the seeker of knowledge know about them. However affairs that require Fiqh (understanding) and require ‘Ilm (knowledge), affairs connected to the Halaal and the Haraam and the affairs of Tawheed and Shirk, then they must be based upon knowledge.
