I have been given an interviewto study zoology at manchester university, now zoology has been the thing i liked since lets say i was 5 years old. Since then i fascinated by it, so what i thought of doing is study it and then go to a jungle or an open ocean somewher in the tropics and work.

Well problem is no one is supporting me with this idea, none of the family members in fact they are very much agianst it.

Now are there any scientist here who could advice me with zoology nd tell me how it is? Or what the chance of me working when i gain the degree?

BarakAllahu feekum

No scientist here just young baby Yanal. You don't need a deegree to be a poop cleaner What kind of degree are you going to try at?

He wants to become a zoologist, Yanal, not a zoo-keeper.

Zoologist: a specialist in the branch of biology dealing with animals.

So the type of maniacs trying to discover new species.

I know Steve. Didn't he die because of zoology. He got shocked by a jellyfish I think. Hey if this pays well you and me partners.

This is wat I want to be too .. But no one takes me seriously at home, they rather find it amusing.

I wud love to work wit Dolphines that wud be a dream come true!

Yep he died, but got killed by a stingray. In fact it doesnt pay great , but am not in it for the money :statisfie

Steve Irwin wasn't really a 'zoologist' :rollseyes. He just kinda wrestled with crocodiles.

My Bio teacher's a zoologist. Has a PhD in worms. :skeleton:

lolol, phd in worms?? Yee but thats the type of work am planning to do(steve's) just without the camera nd without the aligators

In that case I want to work with whatever you work with bro.

Which degree? You will be very, very lucky to get anything in that line without a PhD, so you need to be prepared for the long haul.

Study what you actually want to study, though. If you are really motivated you will get a First and with that it becomes an awful lot easier to pick and choose postgraduate courses that give you the best chance of achieving the opportunities you want; even those with very little to do with zoology.

Do what you love (as long as it's not haram) and you'll never go wrong. Especially if you don't care about the money.

Decide what you want and why you want it and what the implications of doing that are, and then come to a decision.
I don't know much about zoology, but mashallah it sounds very interesting, I hope you enjou whatever you choose.:thumbs_up

I have the same problem as you brother. I want to do a degree i+n law in uni but my parents are not happy with that. I dont want to be a lawyer or anything like that just that im very interested in law and maybe inshallah it may lead me to work for non-government organisations and im not interested in money never been just that i love to help people but my parenst keep discouraging me and telling me that i will regret it later.
they always say that if i dont listen to them Allah will not make my plans successful- walahi they are making me feel so guilty imsad
now im not sure imsad

Sister, thats excatly what is holding me back. I could just go to manchester nd study what i desire, i am a youngman and can well decide my future. Problem is i will have that guilt feeling eating me from the inside imsad
Knowing that they are not happy with me, esp my mum is having high blood pressure and can't get to angry. So this is a very difficult period for my self.

Is it hard to get a job generally with just the degree, or is it much harder with zoology?

In practical terms, I'm not sure if there's much of a demand for zoologists. I had a friend who studied zoology, but couldn't find any jobs in that field. She then got a job in a lab as an MLA and is now qualifying to be a biomedical scientist, she just has to do a few top-up modules.
Have you ever considered marine biology?
Sorry am not of much help.

Yep i had considered marine biology and it sounds really appealing, but i guess my thing is more on land rather than on the sea . She couldnt find a job in the country she lived on, or did she look abroad? See my only concern would be findin a job later on, and am afraid i might not find anyimsad.

Thanks for the help.

:w:

Talking about in the Uk in general. She didn't want to leave the country I think.
You may have potential insha'allah if you broaden your horizons.
I think though, that it'd be best to study something that you really really enjoy. I made the mistake of studying something I find liked and found challenging as opposed to a subject I loved and found easy purely because of thinking ahead and thinking about the areas I'd like to work in. I'm in my final year now and no longer feel too much interest in the subject, which is a shame I guess.
Serious though, try Istikharah. May help in this life changing situation of yours.
