Im a student midwife in an area where there is a high number of women who are unable to speak english, and i feel that it is a great injustice to them to have to speak of intimate matters with their mother-in-laws or husband as interpreters. This is partly because in some circumstances the woman may feel awkward speaking of these matters with an audience, and partly because some of the questions get lost, due to the interpreter not understanding the importance of the question (no offence intended).
Because of that i think it is essential for me to learn urdu (the most predominant language in the area). However i am finding it extreemly difficult to find a website that teaches Urdu to english speaking people. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to teach me a few basic phrases that would be of assistance in some of the situations that come up?
