    Time is precious

The Prophet Mohammad s.a.w, said: "Lose no time to do good deeds before you are caught up by one of seven calamities awaiting you: a starvation which may impair your wisdom; a prosperity which may mislead you; an ailment which may damage your health; an old age which may harm your senses; a sudden death; the Dajjal or Doomsday, which is indeed the hardest and most bitter." (at-Tirmidhi, al-Baihaqi)

Imam Hasan Al Basari on funeral of Muslim said:

"May Allāh have mercy on the man who works for the likes of this day; for today you are able to do what these brothers of yours, the residents of these graves, cannot do. So make full use of your health and free time before the day of distress and accounts comes upon you."

    Re: Time is precious

Abul-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi wrote to one of his sons:

"Know, my son, that days consist of hours, and hours are made of the breaths you take. Every breath is a treasure chest, so beware of letting a breath pass by with no benefit. You do not want to find an empty treasure chest on the Day of Judgement and regret. Indeed, a man once said to 'Amir Ibn 'Abd Qais : 'Stop, I want to talk to you.' So he replied: 'Hold the sun in your hands [i.e. stop time] so I can talk to you.'"

    Ibraheem Ibn Adham said:

"We once went to visit a worshipper who was sick and found him crying, looking at his feet. We asked, 'Why are you crying?' to which he replied, 'They did not become dirty in the path of Allah.' Another person cried, and they asked: 'Why are you crying?' He answered: 'Due to a day that passed without me fasting it and a night that passed without me standing [in prayer during] it.'"

    Value of time

In the smallest Surah of Quran, Allah takes and oath on time and says:

“By the time! Man is loosing out! Except for people who (do 4 things)

    1, believe properly,
    2, do good deeds,
3, encourage one another to do good, and
4, encourage one another to be patient”

This Qasam shows the value of time! Because Allah only takes Qasam of precious things. If we don’t cherish time, we are loosing out.

Hadith says “There are 2 blessings of Allah regarding which people are loosing out 1, good health (by not taking care of it) and 2, free time (by wasting it)

Hadith says “This dunya is like a farming field for the Aakhirah” ie. we sow the seeds here and reap the rewards in Aakhirah. So don’t waste time. Keep busy in planting the seeds of good deeds!

Hasan Basri rahmatullahi alayhi says: “Son of Adam! You are but the name of days. Each day that passes in your life, you have passed”

Mawlana Umar Palanpuri rahmatullahi alayhi used to say “Wasting time is like committing suicide. The only difference is that, in suicide people realise the death, whereas in wasting time people fail to realise it”

Umar Ibn Abdilaziz rahmatullahi alayhi used to say :”The day and night are working on you, So work in them”

Abdullah Ibn Masud radiallahu anhu said :” I don’t regret upon anything as much as I regret on the day in which the sun sets and while my life has decreased, my Amal does not increase”

Hadith says :”Everyday, when the sun rises, it makes an announcement “Son of Adam! Do what you can in this day because It will never be returning to you”
When Ramadhan starts an announcement is made “O seeker of good! Proceed! and O seeker of evil! Stop!”

Allah Subhanahu wa ta’aala, in a hadith Qudsi says :” Son of Adam! I have created you for my worship, so don’t mess around! And I have destined your Rizq for you, so don’t tire yourself! Look for Me and you will gain Me. If you gain Me you have gained everything. If you loose Me you have lost everything and I am better for you than everything”

Another Hadith Qudsi says :” Son of Adam! Take time out for my worship and I will fill your heart with richness and I will remove your poverty whereas if you don’t do so, I will fill hands with busy schedules and I won’t remove your neediness”

May Allah give us ability to utilise time to it’s full potential. Ameen

    Re: Time is precious

Hazrat Khwaaja Azeezul Hassan (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) mentioned that Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) had given him the following advice:

It is extremely important for one to allocate a fixed time for every work and duty, and to thereafter adhere strictly to this timetable. It should not be that one begins to attend to a second work in the time of the first work, and a third work in the time of the second work. Rather, one should ensure that he attends to every work in the specific time that he has allocated for it. If one adheres to his schedule in this manner, he will enjoy immense barakah in his time and will also feel at ease.

    Re: Time is precious

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

It is extremely unfortunate for a person’s time to be wasted in idleness, without him gaining anything. If one does not have any work to attend to, then he should at least engage himself in the chores of the home. In carrying out the chores of the home, not only will his heart perceive a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction, but he will also be engaged in ‘ibaadah and receive reward as he is assisting his family.
When a person passes his time by sitting with people and chatting about things that are futile, then he is at great risk of falling into harm, as the conversation often turns to gossip, complaining about people, and sometimes even involves backbiting. Hence, it is vitally important that one abstain from getting involved in discussions without a genuine need.
