The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) launched its second annual “Muslims Care” campaign which promotes volunteerism in the Muslim community, U.S. Newswire reported.

In its summer-long campaign, CAIR will provide Muslims with the necessary resources and information they need to help improve the communities they live in.

The Islamic civil rights group will also offer ideas on how to help the needy and urge Muslims to focus on health awareness and youth activities.

"As Muslims, we are encouraged to work to improve the communities in which we live," said CAIR Communication Coordinator Rabiah Ahmed.

Mr Ahmed cited a recently-conducted CAIR survey showing that most Americans said they would change their opinion about Islam and Muslims if they perceived that Muslims were more concerned about issues such as healthcare, education and economy.

Those who wish to take part in the campaign can visit CAIR’s campaign website:http://www.muslims-care.org, where they will be able to download a toolkit containing information about how to become a volunteer as well as some suggestions on volunteer activities such as blood drives, health awareness fairs and student tutoring.

The “Muslim Care” toolkit also includes advice to Muslim Imams (prayer leaders) about how they can encourage volunteerism in local mosques and recommends partnering with established volunteer groups such as the American Cancer Society and Big Brother/Big Sisters.

The kit also contains some verses from the holy Qur’an and hadith by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on volunteerism and helping the needy that could be used by Imams in their sermons.

One hadith quotes Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as saying; "The upper hand (of giving) is better than the lower hand (of receiving).”

CAIR, the U.S.'s largest Muslim advocacy group, has 31 offices and chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Its mission is to improve the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil rights, help American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

I am not from the US but I am aware that in the US their baseball and American football games are important to them.

Are these games popular among American muslims?
