    Religious holidays

    Report bad ads?

apparently in Bangladesh,we are having quite a huge Christmas celebration.
and I don't know why they say minority rights are violated.

anyways are Muslims allowed to take holidays in the west?In Non-Muslim countries?

Here is an article I found on Muslims in the American workplace. It would seem that companies had some issues with certain religious obligations for Muslims, but as the article states, an update in Congress should solve these problems. For those Muslims who think Republicans are against them, it should be of interest to know that ex-senator Rick Santorum (R) and John Kerry brought this issue before Congress.

Not officially in the UK. But most schools in my area look favourably at requests for time off for Eid.

Thats a very horrible attitude to have. How would you feel if, when muslims ask for time off for Eid, or for any other Islamic consideration for that matter, someone said "tell the muslims to go back to their own country".

    Its wrong, very wrong.

    yup you are right...
it is suppose to be on dec 31st

dec 20....is for the next year...

maybe he refered to calender 2007.

Most malaysian will go back to their hometown/villages when come to long holidays. We look forward to it..

    for example during this eid

31st is on sunday....so the government will bring the holiday forward to Monday...but MONDAY is supposed to be new year holiday....so again it will bring forward and Tuesday will be our holiday. (Not formally announced yet lol...predicted by most of us)

During that long holiday...alot of ppl will go back to their hometown/village to perform qurban.

but i can't....as my hubby does not want to take the risk getting stuck in the flood (it is monsoon season)

    Re: Religious holidays

In the US we don't get any religious holidays.

There are 52 weeks in the year. Americans sleep 8 hours a day that accounts for 17 weeks and 1 day per year leaving just 36 weeks and 6 days per year to work. Now we have another 8 hours per day for leisure time which accounts for another 17 weeks and 1 day leaving just 19 weeks and 5 days for work. We get weekends off which comes to be 104 days per year or 14 weeks and 4 days Which leaves 5 weeks and 1 day for work. Then we get 2 weeks vacation time and 2 weeks sick leave which leaves One week and one day to work. But we have 7 Federal Holidays and 4 State Holidays each year and that leaves only one day per year to work and that happens to be labor day and nobody works then. So we don't have any time left over to take any Religious holidays.

What a pre planned life ,What a way to spend a lifetime. And they wonder why people are over stressed.

ps.malaysia is one fun loving country.
