The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah is about to begin, the question is what is so special about these days? Or what is the significance of these days? and how to prepare yourself for these days?

  • Allah says in Surat Al Hajj: “And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass –That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrifice] animals. So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor.” [Alhajj 27-28]

Ibn Katheer mentioned in his Tafseer regarding this verse the saying of Ibn Abbas: “The known days, it refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.”

  • Allah swore by these days in Surat Alfajr: “By the dawn. And [by] ten nights” [Alfajr 1-2]. Al Tabary interpreted “the ten nights” saying these are the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “There is no virtue more to the liking of Allah in any day than in these days, that is, the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. They (the Companions) asked: Messenger of Allah, not even the struggle in the path of Allah (Jihad)? He said: (Yes), not even the struggle in the path of Allah, except a man who goes out (in the path of Allah) with his life and property, and does not return with any of them” [Sahih]
