No it's not, it's obligatory to follow the Qur'an and Sunnah. Whatever a scholar says from the Qur'an and Sunnah is obligatory to follow, whether it's in a madhab or not.
And verily for everything that a slave loses there is a substitute, but the one who loses Allah will never find anything to replace Him.” [Related by Ibn al-Qayyim in ad-Dâ' wad-Dawâ Fasl 49]
As far as I know it's not Fardh to follow a maddhab. If a person is following one and it becomes clear to him that the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wasallam) is something other than what he has learned from his madhhab, then what he is required to do is to follow the Sunnah.
